Crazy Frog ‘heading for top spot’

BBC Online is carrying a story about how the Crazy Frog – AxelF remix single is headed for number one this weekend. It’s selling faster than Coldplay’s “Speed of Sound” but, to be honest, I don’t know anyone who buys singles anymore. Maybe it’s because most of my friends are tech savvy and know where to find them online but haven’t single sales been diminishing for years? If you sell a few thousand copies then you can get to “Number 1” these days, but is that really a chart topper in the purest sense? I don’t think so. Apparently the charts are now taking into account sales made on sites like iTunes but I don’t think that makes a difference as a lot of people will just use P2P to grab a track.
