Return to Zihuatenejo: Shawshank 2

Lottie has tagged me with the movie of your life meme. I think I saw people doing this ages ago but I never partook. Well consider that fixed.

The Rules!
1. List the people who would play you, and the people in your life.
2. Give credit to the person who tagged you. That’d be Lottie mentioned above.
3. Link your answers to the original blog, that’s http://www.iRamble.co.uk
4. Tag four new people to participate.

To play me:

Despite what the ladies seem to think from the burlesque shenanigans, I wouldn’t pick any of the Bond actors. Well, maybe Daniel Craig. I’d be thinking more along the lines of Michael J Fox, Zach Braff, John Cusack or Topher Grace. Actually James McEvoy would probably be bang on. Always had a lot of respect for that guy, he seems decent and hard-working.

Family:
For my brother I’d probably pick a young Ewan Mc Gregor or someone like that. Ethan Hawke would be a good fit as well. For my mum it’d be someone like Meryll Streep. Strong, considered and loving. Hmmm. Tom Hanks for my da although he looks like John Cleese.

Friends:
I’ll go all out on this one and choose a good few friends I’ve left out a couple cos I can’t figure out ones for them. :)

Marshall Matters would be apt for Dave since he used to look like him plus he can sorta act. Jake Gyllenhaal for Mark. Darren’s pick of Ryan Phillippe for himself would probably be near on. Mr Doyle is a difficult one to pick but I’d go for Robin Williams or Gene Wilder. Lottie’s self pick of Nicole Kidman I’d agree with. She seems to have that cheeky character. Jim Carey for DarDar cos he’s kooky.

Like RP my movie would need a montage where my character goes through some type of bootcamp. A trip to Vegas would also be involved (ala Swingers) and whatever else the director saw fit to include.

A lot of the people I know have already been tagged but I’ll tag three:

DarDar
ellybabes
Ben

These guys have done it already: Darren, Lottie, RP.

This should be the official song:

I would like to offer this song to the makers of the new James Bond movie ‘The Quantum of Solace’, entirely free, for use over the opening credits of their forthcoming movie. Yours sincerely, Joe Cornish.

Why Subscribe to Comments is crucial for WordPress blogs

Web 7 Comments, add yours »

I’ve been using WordPress for god knows how long now. I mainly blog about crap but, like any other blogger, I love to see people interacting with the site and leaving comments. As Darragh has outlined before, comments are the life blood of blogs. I browse a lot of blogs each day and comment on quite a few. The comments sections in these blogs sometimes turn into more than just standalone comments on an article, they become conversations instead.

Most of you will have seen the little tick box at the end of a comment form indicating whether or not you want to be emailed if someone else comments. It’s simple, effective and in most cases is the “Subscribe to Comments” plugin (developed by Mark Jaquith), at least on WordPress blogs. That single tick can drag me back to a post I had forgotten about and engage me in a conversation I may well have missed out on. Otherwise I’d have to subscribe to the comments feed for all of those blogs via RSS. Explain to me which is easier for non-techies to understand?

I mentioned to Donncha a while ago how this functionality should be built into WordPress.com. I know he looks after MU and not WP.com incidentally. The hosted version, while tracking your comments on other WordPress.com blogs, doesn’t offer the “Subscribe to Comments” functionality. I believe that’s something that should be addressed by the WP team. There are over 3.7 million blogs on the platform and a number of my friends are hosted there. Having the ability to track conversations within their comments would not only be good for the user but good for WordPress.com in terms of advertising etc.

Well, that’s my take on it anyway. What do ya reckon?

The Singstar

Mr Darren Byrne singing his heart out last weekend at Lottie’s cocktail evening. I say evening but that was taken about 8am after the sun had risen again. :)
