While reading through Boing-Boing this morning, I came across two crazy stories. The first was about a 13-foot Burmese python who ate a crocodile in the Everglades and subsequently burst. There’s a great quote at the end of the story from Joe Wasilewski, a wildlife biologist and crocodile tracker, who urged caution for people in the area but said “This is not a ‘Be afraid, be very afraid’ situation.”
The second was about how scientists have taught dolphins to combine both rhythm and vocalisations to produce music, resulting in an extremely high-pitched, short version of the Batman theme song. Apparently it’s the first time that non-human mammals have shown they can recognise rhythms and reproduce them vocally. If they teach them more tunes then I’d happily go along to a concert at Seaworld.
