An Irishman in New York

Love this:

“Living in New York I’d grab my Canon 7D, or S95, and shoot footage of what was going on around me. It seemed like a never ending project and you could stay filming life in New York for a long time. But eventually I put my camera down and started to edit.

Here’s the end result, it’s a bit rough and ready but that’s life in the Big Apple I guess.” – Paul Clancy

Friday Photo – Legless

On the advice of a friend I caught Abandoman in the Comedy Tent at Electric Picnic 2011 last weekend in Stradbally. Rob Broderick and James Hancox are a hip hop comedy improv act and were truly superb. One of their improv songs was “What’s in your pocket?” and the photo above was taken after an audience member removed their artificial leg. They got a standing ovation after every song so that’ll illustrate how tremendously funny these guys were. Highly recommend catching them if you get a chance.

Project Nim

I really enjoyed ‘Man on Wire‘ (directed by James Marsh), which documented Philippe Petit’s daring, but illegal, high-wire routine performed between New York City’s World Trade Center’s twin towers in 1974. Marsh’s new film, Project Nim, is released in Ireland on August 12th and tells the story of a chimpanzee taken from its mother at birth and raised like a human child by a family in a brownstone on the upper West Side in the 1970s. The trailer looks really good so I’ve got high hopes.
