My 2015 in music

Spotify have released their Year in Music tool and it tells me I spent 14k minutes listening to 1655 different tracks (not counting December).

My top artist by plays is Childish Gambino. Followed by Frank Turner, Everything Everything, Jamie XX and Elbow.

Top ArtistsTop Tracks

Top played track was Shadows by Childish Gambino. Delorentos’ Forget the Numbers is in there at number 3. Great tune.

Since they sampled the data I would have passed 700 artists. Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist has been the top feature of any online service I’ve used in 2015.
669 artists

Looking forward to what the data on 2016 ends up looking like.

Childish Gambino

I’m a big fan of Community, Dan Harmon’s ridiculous community college set show, which is about to debut for a sixth season. One of my favourite characters was Troy (who has since left the show), played by Donald Glover, and I was completely unaware until late last year that he’s a really talented rapper who goes by the stage name Childish Gambino. I’ve been listening to anything I can get my hands on but the 2013 album ‘because the internet’ is far and away some of the best music I’ve heard in years. The track ‘shadows’ is a particular stand out. If you’ve got Spotify, which frankly if you listen to music is a necessity, then you can browse his artist’s page here. Otherwise, watch the video below for Sober.

Spirit of Folk Festival 2014

Spirit of Folk Festival 2014 took place a couple of weeks ago and I’ve just got around to uploading my photos. It’s a small trad, indie and craft festival that takes place each year in Dunderry, Co. Meath. I’ve been at 3 of the 4 they’ve put on and can honestly say that I’ve had some of the best days of my life there. The crew are fantastic, the music is brilliant and the craic is unreal. Peter has done a full review over on culch so check that out for music and links to the artists etc. A definite for 2015.
