The War Memorial Gardens, Islandbridge

Yesterday morning I went along with Peter’s Garden Group to visit the War Memorial Gardens (thanks to @curlydena for the lift). Located in Islandbridge, they are a beautiful tribute to the Irish men who lost their lives fighting in the Great War 1914-1918. We were guided by Craig, one of the resident gardeners who obviously enjoys his job. Craig explained how the gardens are symmetrical in design with certain trees representing soldiers whilst others are on a raised level representing generals overlooking the battlefield. Whilst a lot of the roses have been pruned back for winter, the sheer amount and variety of them means I’ll be paying another visit come June/July. 🙂
