Bing Maps brings the Augmented Reality

Really impressed by this talk by Blaise Aguera y Arcas at a recent TED event. He shows off augmented reality within Bing Maps and brings gasps from the crowd as a result. Widespread implementation of what he is demoing may be a little while off but it shows where they are going:

Friday Photo – The new Liberty Hall

Dublin’s Liberty Hall has been a staple of the Dublin skyline for forty odd years at this stage. SIPTU, who own the building, announced plans a number of years ago to re-develop on the same site. The photo below is of the new Liberty Hall model which is on display in Civic Offices. I quite like it.

The War Memorial Gardens, Islandbridge

Yesterday morning I went along with Peter’s Garden Group to visit the War Memorial Gardens (thanks to @curlydena for the lift). Located in Islandbridge, they are a beautiful tribute to the Irish men who lost their lives fighting in the Great War 1914-1918. We were guided by Craig, one of the resident gardeners who obviously enjoys his job. Craig explained how the gardens are symmetrical in design with certain trees representing soldiers whilst others are on a raised level representing generals overlooking the battlefield. Whilst a lot of the roses have been pruned back for winter, the sheer amount and variety of them means I’ll be paying another visit come June/July. :)
