..stop crapping on our street. As seen in Sandymount:

I’d heard about it but hadn’t actually watched it. A stop by Christian’s blog this evening remedied that. It’s a 5 minute short about an attack on Montevideo directed and animated by Fede Alvarez. He did it with $300. I would happily pay to hear exactly how he did it with that much cash. Amazing:

- Visually stunning. The CG convinces you from minute one and is as big an achievement as Gollum was in LOTR. He’s created a whole world of creatures, plants, mountain ranges etc that will blow you away.
- The story is decent but not something your gonna remember for years to come.
- See it in 3D if possible. It’s the best use of 3D I’ve seen bar IMAX.
- Sam Worthington really is the next big action star. He was a standout in Terminator 4 and he dominates proceedings here.
- When the action kicks off, and there’s a good bit of it, you know it’s Jim Cameron. He just does action sequences better than anyone else.
Overall: Well worth seeing, especially on the big screen.
Interesting presentation from Mark to the Institute of International and European Affairs on the future of news as he sees it. I’m going to be watching how he tries to develop a filter for news in the social media era as I believe it to be the most complex challenge for news. Assigning weight to certain producers of content, as Mark suggests, can lead to stagnation of sources unless rising stars (who have yet to attain the overall necessary “worth”) are included. I would think it’s going to be quite a labour intensive process but Mark mentions a number of different agencies who are working on it.
