Away We Go

away-we-go
I’ve had the cinema ticket in my jacket pocket since last week. Kind of like a silent reminder to write this blog post so here it is. Away We Go is Sam Mendes’ latest and is his kookiest work to date in my opinion. Essentially it’s a road movie but different in that a couple (played by John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph), expecting their first child, are trying to find their place in the world. They visit friends and relatives (some crazier than others) in an attempt to find a base for their expanding family. The film works because of the two leads. Some movie couples work better than others and the relationship between Krasinski and Rudolph’s characters feels genuine. This film isn’t going to set the world alight but it’s funny and entertains for the length of its running time.

It’s award season again

Darren
It’s hard to believe it’s been a full year since the first Irish Web Awards last October. Our work site, dublin.ie, picked up the ‘Best Council’ award and I had a fantastic night and met loads of people. The event rolls around tomorrow and, although the work sites didn’t make the shortlists this year, I’m particularly proud to be involved, in a very small way with culch.ie.

Culch is shortlisted in the ‘Best Entertainment’ category alongside heavyweights like Entertainment.ie, TV3 and Movies.ie. It’s been amazing to see the progression of Culch over the months and it’s not even turned one year old yet. There are a fantastic array of writers producing quality content day in, day out for no financial reward. At the helm is one of my closest friends and a trojan in terms of Culch, Darren Byrne. He eats, sleeps and breathes Culch. If it wins tomorrow then a large share of the credit must go to him, he’s been immense. Come along if you can, tickets are available here, it’s sure to be another great night.
