Investigations Ongoing

Ken had mentioned it to me at CreativeCamp last year but somehow i’d missed it since. I’m talking about Vultures PI. The Kilkenny produced, Vulture Private Investigations, put their fourth episode of the online sitcom, The Case of the Poisoned Dates, live last week. It follows the escapades of three private “detectives”, Dan McGrain, Jim Vultour and Niall Tennyson plus a cast of great supporting characters.

The writing is smart, funny and effective with the interplay between the lads feeling completely natural. If I had a favourite character so far it’d be Jack Street (played by Ross Costigan) or Dan McGrain (played by David Thompson). In truth it’s probably unfair of me to pick two as everyone is just so good. The latest episode deals with the romantic entaglements of the characters and had me genuinely laughing out loud. Episodes 5 & 6 of the show are filming at the moment and they’ll close out the first series. I’m really looking forward to them.

You can check out the episodes over on their site or subscribe via iTunes (dead easy). Check out Jack Street’s promo video below:

Friday Photo – Fireworks at Croke Park

DSC04199

Took this last week at the Dublin vs Tyrone game in Croke Park. This year is the GAA’s 125th anniversary so the game was followed by a spectacular lights and firework show. It went on a good 15-20 mins. The Dubs just lost out in the game but it couldn’t take away from a brilliant night. After the break is the video footage I took on my mobile:

Syncing Google Calendar to your iPod Touch

ipod_calI’d been trying to figure this out for ages. I’m a Windows user (I can almost hear the distant murmur of disapproval from the Mac crew) and I use Google Calendar for both personal appointments and work meetings. That’s been the case now for roundsabouts two years. I bought an iPod Touch 1st gen about a month after their release. They’re a sexy device, it’s practically an iPhone without the contract, and I was happy with it but whilst I was in the States the 2nd gen was released. Being the sucker that I am for new technology, I got one. Now with my 1st gen device I had it jailbroken but when I got home, I found out that there was no jailbreak for the 2nd gen (there is now). This meant I no longer had the ability to synchronize my Google Calendar with my iPod Touch calendar.

That was the case up until about a week ago when I stumbled across NuevaSync. NeuvaSync is a web service that is able to talk the talk between Apple’s device and Google. It’s free, offers great features and isn’t platform dependent. It runs seamlessly in the background as well. I’m not even aware of it synching up new appointments over the Wifi in the office.

The DSPCA needs your help

Fire at the DSPCALast night at their shelter in Rathfarnham the DSPCA suffered a fire that destroyed their hay barn, a year’s supply of hay and hard feed. The shelter’s tractor and all its maintenance equipment and tools were also lost. Damage is estimated to be over €500,000. No animals or staff were hurt thankfully. I saw the item on the news this evening and have decided to throw a few quid their way. They look after 300 animals on site in Rathfarnham and do a tremendous amount of good work in the Dublin area. I’m signing up to the Basic Member yearly subscription which is €32. If you can spare anything at all, please use their donation page here.

The end of midweek Nitelinks

Well this news sucks. Dublin Bus are discontinuing their Monday to Thursday Nitelink service on all routes. It means that if I miss the 11.25pm last buses from the city centre, I’ll need to get a taxi home. That taxi fare is normally in the region of €25-30 compared to €5 for the Nitelink. Now I know we’re nowhere near the same populus as London but they have a 24 hour bus service on a ton of routes. Is it really acceptable to leave people without a bus home anytime after 11.30pm for 5 days of the week (they don’t run Sunday at all)? The service I would have got, the 66N, only ran at 12.30am and 2.00am on those midweek nights. Two buses ffs. This will really have an affect on how much I attend events in the city centre from now on (particularly Soundcheck and comedy gigs).
