Why I don’t shop at Amazon

One of my mates pointed me to a really funny blog late last week called Tucker Max. In his own words:

I get excessively drunk at inappropriate times, disregard social norms, indulge every whim, ignore the consequences of my actions, mock idiots and posers, sleep with more women than is safe or reasonable, and just generally act like a raging dickhead.

amazon-order Through the blog I discovered that he’s wrote a book so I’m gonna buy a copy based on what I’ve read on his site. He links off to Amazon.com so I checked on Amazon.co.uk thinking I’d save money on delivery. How wrong I was. To the right is a screenshot of my shopping cart with the book costing £6.39 and delivery a whopping £4.98. 😯

All it has to do is cross the bloody Irish sea! Are they prepping a special book sized boat, propelled by the tiniest propeller known to man which will sail the choppy waters and delivery it safely to me?! Ridiculous. I’ll buy it from Play.com and get free delivery instead.

Hi Bernie, thanks for the comment. I think the difference is that the postage is justified when there’s multiple items but it’s something that has always bothered me about Amazon.

It’s the same here… I pay full price for shipping on items that are sent from… literally… 2 hours away. Fortunately, Amazon offers free shipping once you reach a certain quota here in the US, so I just keep adding things I want to my “saved items,” then place the order once I’ve passed the free-shipping threshold. Still have to pay Washington State sales tax though. 🙁

The reason I don’t shop at Amazon, is because I can’t! For some reason, they no longer seem to be shipping to Ireland.
